Matua, Kuril Islands, Russia

This uninhabited, volcanic island is situated in the middle of the Kuril Islands chain, just north of Japan. Sarychev Peak, which peaks at nearly 5000 feet (1,496 m), is one of the most active volcanoes of the Kuril Islands, and is streaked with interesting lava flow patterns accumulated over the years.
