Considered by the ancient Greeks to be the center of the earth, Delphi was once the site of an oracle of the earth goddess Gaea. Delphi once encompassed a theatre and a stadium where the Pythian festival (similar to the Olympics) was held. Four triumphal arches remain today to trumpet the glories of the past.
